How to convert a PDF to PNG

    Use 96 DPI for a small screen image, 150 DPI for a balanced result, or 300 DPI for print and close inspection.

  3. Choose the pages

    Each selected page becomes a PNG. Every PNG is reopened and its pixel dimensions are checked before the download is offered.

Choosing a PNG resolution

Resolution controls the number of pixels in each image. At 96 dots per inch, a letter-sized page is about 816 by 1,056 pixels. At 150 DPI it has more than twice that pixel area. At 300 DPI it has nearly ten times the pixel area of the 96 DPI version, so small type stays clearer but the files are larger.

PNG is lossless and suits text, charts, diagrams, screenshots and flat colour. For scans and photographs, PDF to JPG usually creates a much smaller file. In either format, the output is a picture and no longer contains selectable text.

What does the PNG output check prove?
It opens every generated PNG and checks that its width and height match the selected PDF page at the requested DPI. A failed result is not offered for download.
Is there a maximum PNG page size?
Yes. One converted page is capped at 40 million pixels. The tool reports an error instead of returning a truncated image.
