How to convert a PDF to PNG

  1. Open the PDF

    Choose a PDF, or drop one here. The PDF is not sent anywhere; its pages are drawn by the PDF reader in this tab.

  2. Set the PNG resolution

    PNG keeps every pixel, so resolution sets the file size. 96 DPI suits a web page or a slide, 150 DPI a document you will zoom into, and 300 DPI print.

  3. Select pages

    Export the whole document, or list pages and ranges like 2, 7-9 to save only those.

  4. Check and download

    Each PNG is decoded again and its width and height must equal the page size at your DPI. Then the PNG, or a ZIP of them, is offered.

Choosing a PNG resolution

A PNG stores every pixel without loss, so its size grows with the pixel count. Doubling the DPI gives four times the pixels: an A4 page is 794 by 1,123 pixels at 96 DPI and 2,480 by 3,508 at 300 DPI. Pick the lowest setting at which the smallest type on the page is still sharp.

PNG is lossless and suits text, charts, diagrams, screenshots and flat colour. For scans and photographs, PDF to JPG usually creates a much smaller file. In either format, the output is a picture and no longer contains selectable text.

ZIP size, page numbers and failed pages

The PNG files are stored in the ZIP as they are, with no second compression pass, so the ZIP is about as large as the PNG files inside it. The result shows the download size before you save.

The page box takes whole page numbers and ranges separated by commas, such as 2, 7-9. A backwards range such as 9-7, or a page past the end of the PDF, disables Convert to PNG and names the valid range, for example Choose pages from 1 to 12.

If one page fails, the whole run stops with the page number and the reason, and no partial ZIP is offered. Your PDF is not changed. A page too large for the chosen DPI fails before it is drawn, so pick a lower DPI and run it again.

Does this PDF to PNG converter upload my file?

Is the PNG transparent?
No. Each page is drawn on a white background, as a PDF reader shows it, so a page with no background colour does not come out transparent.
Can I export only selected pages as PNG?
Yes. Choose pages and enter single pages or ranges, such as 1, 3-5. They are converted in page order.
Why are the PNG files large?
PNG is lossless, so a 300 DPI US Letter page holds 2,550 by 3,300 pixels with no detail thrown away. Pages of photos or scans compress poorly as PNG; PDF to JPG makes those much smaller.
Will the text stay selectable in the PNG?
No. PNG is an image format. The source PDF is not changed, so its text remains selectable there.
How are several pages packaged?
In one ZIP named after the PDF. Inside, page-001.png, page-002.png and onward keep the page order in any file manager.
What does the PNG output check prove?
It opens every generated PNG and checks that its width and height match the selected PDF page at the requested DPI. A failed result is not offered for download.
Is there a maximum PNG page size?
Yes. One converted page is capped at 40 million pixels. The tool reports an error instead of returning a truncated image.
