How to turn BMP images into a PDF

What goes into the PDF

Each BMP is decoded in memory and written into the PDF as a lossless PNG image. This keeps its pixel width and height, and keeps transparency when the bitmap carries a usable alpha channel. It does not keep the BMP byte stream, and it does not add OCR or selectable text.

BMP stores raw pixels with no compression, so a handful of bitmaps can be larger than the document they came from. Each one is written into the PDF as a lossless image, which usually shrinks the file without changing a pixel. A bitmap carries no orientation tag either, so pages appear in the order you set here and nothing is rotated behind your back. If the result is still too large to email, Compress PDF reduces the image data without turning the page into a flat picture.

Are my BMP files uploaded?
No. The BMP decoder, PDF writer and output checks run in this browser tab.
Which BMP files does it support?
It reads common Windows and OS/2 bitmap files with 1, 4, 8, 16, 24 or 32 bits per pixel. It also reads standard RLE and bitfield compression.
Does it change image quality?
No pixels are resampled. Each BMP is decoded once and stored as a lossless PNG image inside the PDF. Its pixel width and height are kept.
Can I mix portrait and landscape images?
Yes. Fixed paper sizes turn automatically for landscape images. Match image gives every page the shape of its source image.
Why can the PDF be much smaller than the BMP files?
Many BMP files store pixels with little or no compression. The PDF stores those decoded pixels with lossless PNG compression, which often takes fewer bytes.
Does it make text selectable?
No. BMP contains pixels, not selectable characters. This conversion does not run OCR.
What does the check cover?
It reopens the completed PDF and checks the page count, every page size, and the pixel width and height of each embedded image. A failed result is not offered for download.
