How to turn a PDF into images

  1. Choose a PDF

    Press Choose a PDF, or drop one on the page. The file is opened in this browser tab.

  2. Choose the image set

    Choose JPG or PNG, set 96, 150 or 300 DPI, then export every page or enter page numbers such as 1, 3-5.

  3. Export the pages

    Each selected PDF page is drawn at the requested resolution. Progress reports the page being processed.

  4. Read the check, then download

    Every image is opened again and its pixel dimensions are checked. One image downloads directly; several images download in a ZIP.

Choosing a format and a resolution

Resolution decides how many pixels each page turns into. At 96 dots per inch a letter-sized page is about 816 by 1056 pixels, which is enough for a screen and keeps the download small. At 150 the same page roughly doubles in area. At 300 it is print quality and you can read small print by zooming in, but the files are several times larger. Pick the lowest setting that still shows what you need to show.

Format decides how those pixels are stored. JPG throws away detail the eye is unlikely to miss, which suits scans and photographs and produces much smaller files. PNG stores every pixel exactly, which keeps text edges, line drawings and flat colour clean, and is the safer choice when the page is mostly type. Either way the result is a picture: the text in it is no longer selectable, and the source PDF you started from is left untouched.

Questions

Does the export run on a server?
No. Opening the PDF, drawing its pages, checking the images and building the download all happen in this browser tab.
Should I choose JPG or PNG?
JPG usually makes smaller files for scans and photographs. PNG keeps sharp edges and flat colours clean, but can be larger.
Which resolution should I use?
Use 96 DPI for screens and small files, 150 DPI for a balanced result, or 300 DPI for print and close inspection.
Can I export only some pages?
Yes. Choose pages and enter single pages or ranges, such as 1, 3-5. They are exported in page order.
Is text selectable in the images?
No. JPG and PNG files are images. The source PDF is not changed, and its text remains selectable there.
What does the export check cover?
It opens every generated image and checks that its width and height match the selected PDF page at the requested DPI. A failed result is not offered for download.
How are the exported files named?
Each file is named page- followed by the three-digit page number and the format extension, so page-001.jpg sorts before page-010.jpg in any file manager. More than one page arrives as a single ZIP download.
Is there a limit on page size?
Yes. One exported page is capped at 40 million pixels. A very large page at the highest resolution can pass that cap, and the page tells you instead of handing you a truncated image.
