What is served
--------------

/fonts/noto-a714354b/ holds 56 subsets of 42 Noto faces, gzipped and split into
parts, with a manifest that pins a SHA-256 for every part and for every whole
face. Word to PDF fetches only the tiers whose character ranges hold characters
the document being converted actually uses. Nothing is fetched for a document
written in the WinAnsi characters the fourteen standard PDF fonts already draw,
and nothing about the document is sent anywhere to get them.

The directory is 7,999,058 packed bytes, of which Simplified Chinese is
6,331,971. The manifest is 304,240 bytes and its SHA-256 is
a714354b8773dc6ba1871e08a30e3759d2740f52f53071cfbf564aa2a8c566ba, whose first
eight characters name the directory.

Each subset keeps the copyright and licence strings of the face it came from in
its own name table, so the notice travels with the bytes as the licence
requires.

The Simplified Chinese face is the forty-second. It is one weight instanced out
of the variable font NotoSansSC[wght].ttf published in google/fonts under
ofl/notosanssc/. The Noto Sans CJK .ttc releases are CFF outlines, which a PDF
FontFile2 cannot carry, so the variable TrueType release is used instead:

Modifications
-------------

Every served file is a subset of one of those forty-two, produced by
app/bench/word-fonts-package.py with fontTools. Glyph outlines, GSUB and GPOS
are unchanged; glyphs outside a tier's character ranges are removed, hinting
and the DSIG table are dropped, and bounding boxes are recomputed. The
twenty-eight subsets of the fourteen scripts that need a shaper also keep
U+200C, U+200D and U+25CC, which draw no letter but decide how the letters
around them join. The build is reproducible: the same inputs give the same
bytes and the same directory name, which is the first eight hex characters of
the manifest's SHA-256.

Rebuild it with:
