# Edit PDF pages

Canonical HTML: [https://pdfpix.com/guides/pages/](https://pdfpix.com/guides/pages/)

These guides all edit PDF pages without touching what is printed on them. Adding, deleting, reordering, splitting and rotating are page operations: they move whole sheets around and leave the content of each sheet exactly as it was. That is why they are safe, and why they are grouped apart from real editing.

## Page work versus content work

Changing the order of pages rewrites the page tree in the file. It does not re-render anything, so text stays selectable, images keep their original pixels, and file size barely moves. Deleting a page drops that entry and nothing else.

Changing a word on a page is a different job entirely. It means finding the text run, matching the font, and rewriting the drawing instructions. pdfpix does not do that. See [Edit a PDF](https://pdfpix.com/guides/editing/) for what to use instead.

## One tool covers most of it

Looking for a PDF editor to remove pages, split a file in two, or move page 12 to the front? [Organize pages](https://pdfpix.com/organize-pages/) does all three. You see every page as a thumbnail, drag them, drop the ones you do not want, and download.

Rotation and margin trimming sit in [Rotate and crop](https://pdfpix.com/rotate-pdf/), because a crop box is a page property rather than a page order change.

## Several pages on one sheet

Putting two, four or more pages on one sheet is also a page operation. [N-up PDF](https://pdfpix.com/nup-pdf/) scales each page into a cell on a Letter, A4, A3 or Legal sheet and embeds the page content, so text stays selectable at the smaller size. [Put two PDF pages on one page](https://pdfpix.com/guides/put-two-pdf-pages-on-one-page/) is the common case, [four on one sheet](https://pdfpix.com/guides/print-four-pdf-pages-on-one-sheet/) is the handout case, and [Make a booklet from a PDF](https://pdfpix.com/guides/make-a-booklet-from-a-pdf/) orders the pages so a duplex print folds into a book.

Two scans that should share a page go through the same tool once they are a PDF. [Scan two pages onto one page](https://pdfpix.com/guides/scan-two-pages-onto-one-page/) gives the order: images to one PDF first, then two per sheet.

## Check the result before you send it

Page operations fail quietly. A deleted page looks the same as a page that was never there, and a reversed pair reads fine until someone reaches the second one. Open the downloaded file and page through it once.

If the source file was damaged to begin with, page tools may refuse it. [Repair PDF](https://pdfpix.com/repair-pdf/) rebuilds the cross reference table so the file opens again.

## Questions and answers

### Can I delete one page and keep the rest?

Yes. Open Organize pages, click the page you do not want, and download the result. The other pages are untouched, including their text and images.

### Does splitting a PDF change the pages?

No. Splitting copies whole pages into new documents. Nothing is re-rendered, so the pages in each part look and behave the way they did in the original.

### Will rotating a page make the file bigger?

Almost never. Rotation sets a page attribute. It does not redraw anything, so the file size stays within a few bytes of where it started.

### Can I add a page from another PDF?

Merge the two files first, then reorder. Merge PDFs joins them and Organize pages puts the new sheet where you want it.
